Music Matters Live is a global platform for some of the world’s best breakthrough acts. Almost 50 bands will rock Singapore from 24 – 26 May 2012 all over Clarke Quay. A festival, which is open to all, has been responsible for jumpstarting many a career and expects this year to be just as great a journey of discovery for both artists and attendees. Furthermore, 2012 will see all three nights of back-to-back performances being broadcast live for the first time over YouTube, reaching an international audience.
Music Matters Live stands out in its aim to promote musical discovery, across the boundaries of countries and nationalities, to connect bands and fans regardless of where they are based. Last year, fans were treated to 42 bands from 18 countries, boosting the presence of many a fresh-faced band. Acts from Music Matters Live have gone on to perform in the massive SXSW (South by Southwest Festival, USA), the Fuji Rock Festival (Japan), open for big American acts such as Simple Plan, return to Singapore play Singfest and Baybeats or were signed to major record labels.
This year hopes to push it further, featuring 50 bands, carefully selected from the hundreds of applications received from the world over. Acts are as varied as Tiger JK, one of Korea’s biggest names in hip hop, Midnight Youth, a highly-praised festival act which has already played SXSW and Big Day Out, and Minor Soul, whose tender mix of indie-folk with the catchy beats of pop-punk is produced by the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart.
In addition to the three nights of live music, Music Matters will also feature a packed programme of industry experts including Lady Gaga’s manager, Troy Carter and Bob Ezrin, the legendary producer who has worked with the likes of Pink Floyd on their landmark album ‘The Wall’ and KISS. They will be speaking on anything from digital services in Asia to the explosive rise of K-Pop as well as the future of Japanese music post-tsunami.
